About Wavves

Wavves is an alternative indie rock band based in San Diego, California. Formed in 2008, the band has always been built to feature the best parts of the indie and alternative scene with lyrics and music that is impactful and true to the spirit of a generation. And some of the catchier beats have also toyed with a pop-punk and surf rock spirit that could only come out of California. Wavves is led by singer-songwriter Nathan Williams and also features Alex Gates (guitar, backing vocals), Stephen Pope (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Ross Traver (drums and backing vocals). 

The band got their start in 2008 when they released several 7’’s and a cassette that led up to their first self-titled album. Theythen recruited Ryan Ulsh as a touring drummer and went on their first US and European tour. This earned them the attention of Pitchfork Media who backed them in releasing their second album, “Wavvves”, which was well received by Spin, The A.V. Club, and Pitchfork to name a few outlets.

Soon after, the band went through some changes following the cancellation of several shows of their European tour. This included new members joining Wavves and the tease of a new album featuring Zach Hill on drums expected towards the end of 2010 and a possible EP.

Today, the band is still going strong. As Wavves released the single “Sinking Feeling” on March 30, 2021. This was followed by the release of their seventh studio album Hideaway later that year. And many longtime fans consider this album a return to form with several critics giving it generally positive reviews.
